If you see a red tank on your boiler or installation, there is no doubt, it is your expansion vessel!
The heating expansion vessel is a part on your boiler that absorbs and compensates for pressure variations, and collects excess water volume in a dedicated space.
It consists of the tank and a rubber membrane in the middle (half air, half water). Its role is to handle pressure variations in your boiler. The volume of water increases when it heats up, causing overpressure or underpressure.
If your boiler loses pressure too often, it may be due to a lack of air in the vessel.
Before replacing the part, Chauffage Service technicians can try to fix it by recharging it with air.
This is a very common repair in the plumbing/heating field.
All boiler brands (Saunier Duval, Chaffoteaux, De Dietrich, ELM Leblanc, Frisquet, Atlantic) are equipped with an expansion vessel. The color, capacity, and shape may vary.
There are also domestic hot water expansion vessels.
